Guide to Retirement Planning Strategies

This educational course examines the five-step retirement planning process and highlights key income sources, risks, and considerations when creating a retirement plan tailored to your client’s needs.

While the event is broadly available to advisors, marketing will be concentrating our invites to a targeted list of firms (including Cetera, LPL, and Stifel). Reminder that advisors from Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Edward Jones, and UBS may not attend. We are hosting a Super CE at two upcoming Wells Fargo conferences (April 24 Nashville and May 29 San Antonio). Our ask is that Wells Fargo advisors from AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, TN, and TX are not invited to maximize their in-person attendance at the Retirement Income Summit.

New Premier VA Flyer: Protect Market Gains

The flyer emphasizes acting now to help clients protect market gains and reduce fees using Premier. It highlights that after an extended market rally and elevated valuations, advisors can reposition clients into more cost-efficient and protective solutions before market conditions shift.

Three Key Takeaways

  • Efficient & Transparent Fees – A clear structure that keeps costs predictable.
  • Protection with Growth Potential – Safeguard your assets while pursuing upside.
  • Timely Market Opportunity – Positioned to capitalize on current trends.

How you can use this with Advisors:

  • Position Premier as a timely reallocation tool:
Use the flyer to start conversations about clients currently holding older, higher-cost annuities who may benefit from lower fees and improved efficiency.
  • Leverage market sentiment:
Tie the message to current conditions, “We’re at historic valuation levels; now’s the time to protect what’s been earned.”

Offer tangible follow-ups:
Highlight the QR code for the VA cost comparison tool sample as a next step for advisors to visualize real client impacts. Pair it with a short consultation or analysis session.

Empire of IOU: the investment megatrend of government spending and sovereign debt

The time is now to have a new conversation about how major governments spend, save, and manage their sovereign debt. The U.S., Europe, Japan, and China are each at an inflection point in their economic path, and their choices will carry dramatically different consequences for growth, inflation, and global asset allocation.

Our debt sustainability framework measures how a country manages demand for its sovereign debt, the quality of its government spending, and the role of the central bank. Join us as we apply this framework to four major economies:

  • United States: Can policymakers restore credibility and rein in surging interest costs without risking global demand for Treasuries?
  • Europe: Will a renewed willingness to invest in defense and infrastructure move Europe past austerity, into an era of growth?
  • Japan: Can policy shifts reshape a debt model built on decades of central bank intervention?
  • China: Is austerity without capital markets liberalization locking China into a structural slowdown?

We will explore the market and asset allocation implications of the next era in sovereign debt management: what do shifting debt paths mean for equities, bonds, and private markets?

Barron’s Best of Annuities

Barron’s released its annual “100 Best Annuities” article on July 25. While New York Life products do not appear in the comparison tables, Matt Wion was quoted in the article, highlighting our Premier Variable Annuity and its competitive fee structure.

Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • We're having a record-breaking year in annuity sales—momentum driven by our brand reputation, financial strength, and the trust our agents and partners build every day.

  • Rankings like these are moment-in-time snapshots. They often overlook long-term value, brand trust, and financial strength—areas where we lead.

  • Cannex, a key data source for the article, allows self-reported rates. We’ve raised concerns about this practice in the past.

  • Some featured products may be more competitive on certain terms. We don’t believe they’re better. Our focus is on consistent, long-term performance clients and advisors can rely on.

Key takeaway:
Clients and advisors continue to choose New York Life because of our financial strength, trusted brand, and long-term value—all delivered through personalized advice and guidance.

  • CD Comparison Flyer: Demonstrates how CDs have underperformed after taxes and inflation, helping position annuities as a smarter, long-term alternative.

  • "From Risk to Resilience" FA Seminar PowerPoint: Offers talking points on why protection-focused products like annuities are gaining traction amid rising interest rates and retirement risks.

You can start using the resources now available in The Playbook.

Riding Out Market Events
